With over 700 dual meet victories under his belt, Bill Sutter has chosen his 39th season to be his last.
Legendary Goodhue wrestling coach Bill Sutter is in his 39th and final season leading the Wildcats from the edge of the mat.
And tonight, Sutter will get the chance to coach against one of his former wrestlers. Kasson-Mantorville coach Paul Mann is a 1995 Goodhue graduate and a former Sutter-coached wrestler. Mann and the KoMets host Goodhue at 7 tonight in a Hiawatha Valley League dual.
The Wildcats are wrestling K-M as members of the HVL for the first time; Goodhue is in its first season as an HVL member. It will be the only meeting between Sutter and Mann.
In his fifth year as K-M’s head coach, Mann has won two section titles and compiled an 81-49 record heading into this season. Sutter will retire after this, his 39th season. He entered the season with 736 career victories, 12 state appearances and two state titles.
Both the Wildcats (Class A) and the KoMets (Class AA) are listed among the “Lean and Mean” teams in The Guillotine’s high school wrestling rankings.
