The five basic principles of Hand Control are:
- Head Taps
- Tapping your opponents head to effect his head position
- Wrist Chopping and Pulling
- Chopping or pulling your opponents hand to free up better hand position
- Elbow Posts
- Pushing your opponents arm up enough to create effective position
- Arm Drags
- Dragging your opponent to create better position
- 2 on 1 Ties
