Memories. When it comes to the state wrestling tournament, everyone has a favorite one. If you follow the sport long enough, you probably remember them like they were yesterday.

It could be a wild match or a stunning upset at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

It could be a weight class where the brackets were turned completely upside down, with upsets galore.

Maybe you’re a bit of an old-timer and you remember the glory days of Jadwin Gym. You might recall that there was something special about the place.

Bound Brook freshman 189-pounder Andrew Campolattano looked on from the bleachers in front of the stage at the NJSIAA Wrestling Championships at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City late Sunday afternoon, taking in an award ceremony for Jackson Memorial High School star Scott Winston.

Jackson’s 160-pounder was feted for his remarkable career — a 137-0 career record, three state championships and a dominant run during the weekend — as a crowd of more than 10,000 gave him a standing ovation. Later, he was given the tournament’s outstanding wrestler award.

The contenders: It’s a wide-open field. Rob Deutsch (33-5), a freshman from Eastern, Lou Mascola (35-2) of Seton Hall Prep, a freshman and Region 3 champion, senior Gerson Deleon (40-1) of Montclair, a first-time Region 4 champion, and top-seeded Charlie Frankel (34-3) of Marlboro, a senior who finished second in Region 6 but is the only wrestler in this weight class who placed in the state last year with a seventh-place finish.
