Apple Valley Star Lightweight Eric DeVos transfers to Waverly, IA

Two-time Minnesota high school wrestling champion Eric Devos will not be returning to Apple Valley next year because his family is moving to Waverly, Iowa. Devos, a freshman who compiled an 88-9 record in two seasons at Apple Valley, was on course to win a record six consecutive state championships. He will wrestle for Iowa power Waverly-Shell Rock.

“As great of a wrestler that he is, he is an even better person,” said David Senstad, a rankings editor for The Guillotine wrestling magazine after confirming the move.

2008 Cadet National Duals Start Today

The Cadet National Duals of Freestyle & Greco-Roman wrestling begin today in Kansas City, Mo and will be held June 26-29 at the KCI Expo Center.

State-level teams will compete in dual meet action in both Olympic styles of the sport, freestyle and Greco-Roman. Cadets are athletes who are 15 and 16 years old.

The Greco-Roman competition will be held on Thursday, June 26 and Friday, June 27.

In Greco-Roman, Illinois claimed the team title last year, after stopping Minnesota by a 46-27 finals score in the championship dual.

The freestyle competition will be held Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29

Three-time state champions David Taylor (112) of St. Paris (Ohio) Graham High, Alex Meade (152) of Camden Wyoming (Del.) Caesar Rodney High and Jason Welch (160) of Walnut Creek (Calif.) Las Lomas High are repeat selections to the 14-member First Team as the 23rd annual ASICS All-America Wrestling Team was announced today.

The ASICS All-America Team, selected by a nationwide panel of wrestling experts, is the only national all-star team for which wrestlers enrolled in all four high-school grades are eligible. ASICS is a title sponsor of the ASICS Vaughan USA Wrestling Fargo Junior National Championships and is a major benefactor of the sport at all levels.
