Earlier today, it was announced that top recruit Chance Marsteller of Kennard-Dale had reneged on Penn State wrestling. Turns out he had a plan, as just a matter of hours later he had committed to Oklahoma State.
“Just to clear up any confusion I will be wrestling for Oklahoma State,” said Marsteller on his Facebook page at approximately 3:15 pm Eastern Time Wednesday afternoon.
It is a bit of a shot for Penn State to absorb, who are normally accustomed to acquiring some of the best wrestlers in the country. Marsteller is considered by many to be the top high school wrestling prospect, being an undefeated three-time Pennsylvania AAA state champion.
Marsteller’s high school coach Mike Balestrini provided some insight: “He’s probably a little confused right now. He always had it narrowed down to those two schools. I just told him to think it through and try to make sure you don’t do something you might regret,” in a Tuesday story with GametimePA.com’s Frank Bodani.
