Solomon Fleckman Named Blair Academy Head Wrestling Coach

Solomon Fleckman Named Blair Academy Head Wrestling Coach

The search for long-time coach Jeff Buxton’s successor at Blair Academy came to an end Monday morning with the hiring of St. Benedicts Prep head coach Solomon Fleckman.

“Solomon Fleckman was offered and accepted the position to return to the Blair faculty as a classroom teacher and as our head wrestling coach,” Blair headmaster Chan Hartwick said.

“Solomon, Jeff Buxton’s top assistant, was on the Blair faculty from 1993 to 2003 and was instrumental in helping Jeff move Blair from an excellent prep school program to the perennial national champions in high school wrestling,” Hartwick said.

“While I am not suggesting that Solomon is another Jeff Buxton, I am saying that Solomon understands the Blair wrestling DNA as well as anyone.”

Buxton, Blair’s head coach from 1982-2012, won 30 consecutive national titles before retiring in October. This past seacon, Charles Danhof acted as interim head coach for Blair, which won another national title.

“Next year Solomon will depend greatly on Charles [Danhof] and Paul [Clavel], who did not overlap with him at Blair, to make sure the wrestling program is moving ahead. His [Danhof's] return will be widely approved and celebrated by the faculty, who wanted to make sure our wrestling team would continue not only its impressive wrestling success but also its academic priority.”

Fleckman, a graduate of Lehigh University where he was a Division I all-American, served as the Dean of Faculty and head wrestling coach at St. Benedicts Prep from 2007-2013.
