Two-time NJSIAA state champion Anthony Ashnault (No. 1 @ 126) of South Plainfield became the third New Jersey wrestler to reach 100 wins without a loss last night as his team rolled to an impressive 48-12 victory over Franklin in South Plainfield.
Ashnault, a junior, won state championships at 103 and 112 pounds, respectively, the past two seasons. He won a 15-4 major decision over Franklin’s Jake Balestrieri at 138 pounds early in a dual meet South Plainfield would win 10 of 14 bouts.
Scott Winston of Jackson finished his career in 2006 with three state titles and a 137-0 career record. Winston is the state’s only wrestler to finish his career undefeated and with 100 or more wins. A year ago, Andrew Campolattano capped a 175-1 career with his fourth state championship. Campolattano won his first 100 matches before losing his first, and only, high school match that same day in a tournament in Pennsylvania.
