Mark Grey (No. 3 @ 132) Wins Powerade over Tyson Dippery (H.M. @ 132) 4-2

Mark Grey (No. 3 @ 132) Wins Powerade over Tyson Dippery (H.M. @ 132) 4-2

There was no gold medal coronation for Central Dauphin’s Tyson Dippery (H.M. @ 132).

Yet, when Dippery stood in front of a packed Canon-McMillan High School gymnasium and received his second-place medal at the prestigious 45th annual Powerade Christmas Wrestling Tournament, he could take solace in that he is one of the premier wrestlers in the country at his weight.

There is no argument.

Dippery, a third-place finisher at states a year ago, gave Blair Academy’s Mark Grey, the No. 3 ranked wrestler nationally according to HSWrestling.net, all he could handle before falling 4-2 in the 132-pound championship bout Friday night.

The runner-up finish comes on the heels of a third-place finish in The Beast of the East Tournament two weeks ago and makes a case for Dippery being ranked in the top 20 when the new rankings are released.

“I’m wrestling pretty well right now, and I think I had a great match,” Dippery said. “I felt I should have gotten two back points early in the second and been in OT, but I didn’t get them.

“I just need to keep plugging away and pressing to get a state title in March.”

Dippery, who dropped an 8-3 decision to Grey in The Beast semifinals, squirmed his way out of early trouble and was only down 2-0 at the end of the first.
