Craig (H.M. @ 171) and Owen Scott (H.M. @ 160) dominated area high school wrestling during the 2010-11 season. The Palmyra-Macedon twins repeated as state champions in their respective weight classes and that’s why the Scotts are the 2011 Daily Messenger Co-Wrestlers of the Year. The pair received the honor in 2010 as well.
“There’s no one to blame but yourself,” he said. “If you get beat it’s your own fault. In team sports you have a lot of people to blame.”
The Scotts transferred from Lyons to Pal-Mac before the 2009-10 season.
Craig went 45-0 as a senior on his way to repeating as the New York State champion in the 171-pound weight class. Owen lost just once on his way to repeating as the state champ in the 160-pound weight class.
“It felt pretty good,” Owen said. “I expected it because I did it the year before, but it still felt pretty good.”
Owen also was named a high school All-American for his success at high school nationals in Virginia Beach and a USA Wrestling All-American.
The twins are partners in wrestling practice.
“It pushes us to do better, to make sure we always try to win and to make sure we’re always putting in the extra time in the offseason,” Craig said.
Both wrestlers are going to continue to compete at Cornell University next year. Craig wants get a business degree and Owen is looking to study athletic sciences.
