Nick Hodgkins of Wyomissing (PA) was perfect from the Super 32 to the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic and leaves no doubt who the No. 1 wrestler is at 145 lbs. Hodgkins set the tone for the season as the Champion from the Super 32 Preseason Tournament and took home the gold over James Green, Lex Ozias, Eric Roach, Pete Baldwin & Henry Carlson. Hodgkins would also claim the Beast of the East Championship, gaining a 4-2 decision over No. 7 Blake Roulo in the finals. Nick would earn 2 tech falls, a pin and a major enroute to his 2nd State Pennsylvania AA Championship. He compiled a career record of 164-8, then solidified the No. 1 ranking after beating No. 3 Alex Dieringer 7-2 at the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic. Nick Hodgkins, currently unsigned to wrestle in college, can expect his choice to make a big impact at the lucky school who signs him.
James Green of Willingsboro (NJ) earned a couple firsts this year despite finishing the season ranked second in the nation. Green would claim Willingsboro’s first high school state title, which would also be his first. With an impressive 16-4 win over Nick Alpher (H.M.) in the finals of the state tournament, Green would carry over his confidence to help win the NHSCA Senior National Championship, defeating No. 5 Pete Baldwin 10-5 in the finals. Finishing with a career record of 146-8, he hopes to continue his success as he heads to The University of Nebraska to wrestle for the Cornhuskers.
Alex Dieringer of Port Washington (WI) had a great high school career, winning 3 Wisconsin Individual State Titles and a 182-4 record. Finishing this season 48-0, Dieringer dominated the Cheesehead Tournament, picking up 4 pins and 2 major decisions to claim the title. Dieringer has all the motivation in the world to continue to get better and focus on college after losing his No. 1 ranking to Nick Hodgkins at the Dapper Dan, falling 7-2. Alex heads off to Oklahoma State for college with his sights on accomplishing even bigger goals.
