No. 1 Hunter Stieber from Monroeville (OH) rolled to an undefeated 54-0 this season, capturing his 4th Ohio Div. III State Title. This seasons Walsh Ironman Champ, Stieber beat No. 3 Nate Skonieczny in the semi’s and No. 2 Austin Ormsbee in the finals to take home the tournaments Most Outstanding Wrestler Award. With a career record of 203-2, Stieber will stay close to home and begins a promising college career next season at Ohio State. Look for a humbled college-bound Hunter Stieber to have some extra motivation after losing to a slightly bigger Travis Shaffer (140 lbs) at the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic.
No. 2 Austin Ormsbee of Blair Academy wraps up his high school career with an abundance of accomplishments. A 3x National Prep Champion and a 4x Fargo National Champion to go along with championships at this seasons Beast of the East and Cheesehead Tournaments, Ormsbee has shown he can compete with anybody. Just one point from a perfect season, Ormsbee beat No. 11 Chris Mecate and No. 10 Chase Ferman at the Walsh Ironman before losing a close 3-2 finals match to No. 1 Hunter Stieber. Ormsbee also took down No. 13 Bryce Brill and No. 7 Matt Kelliher in his quest for his Cheesehead title this season. Austin Ormsbee looks ready, as his college career begins next season as he heads off to wrestle at Oklahoma State.
No. 3 Nate Skonieczny of Walsh Jesuit (OH) showed why he’s one of the best 135 pounders in the country after an impressive 48-1 season. Skonieczny won his first Ohio Div. II State Championship over Case Garrison (H.M.) and his only loss of the season came to No. 1 Hunter Stieber in the semi’s of a stacked 135 lbs Walsh Ironman bracket. Nate would place 3rd at the Ironman after beating No. 13 Bryce Brill, Steve Spearman (H.M.), Gabe LaVey (H.M.) and No. 10 Chase Ferman in the process. To finish off the season, Skonieczny would dominate at FloNationals (130 lbs), finishing with a tech fall over No. 15 Quinton Murphy in the finals. Next season, expect Nate Skonieczny to only improve on his resume and return as one of the top recruits in the nation at his weight class.
