Evan Silver (No. 2 @ 112) of No. 2 Blair Academy bounced back from an early-season ankle injury to capture his fourth National Prep Tournament crown.
Silver, who sat out of the prestigious Walsh Ironman and Beast of the East tournaments with a sprained ankle, wasted no time in his return as he collected a title at The Cheesehead on Dec. 30 in Wisconsin.
The senior later added dual-meet victories over opponents from nationally ranked No. 5 St. Paris Graham and No. 4 St. Edward of Ohio before winning the National Prep Tournament to ensure his spot as the No. 2 ranked wrestler at 112 pounds in the country— behind two-time state champion Anthony Ashnault (No. 1 @ 112) of South Plainfield. Silver finished his career with a 127-10 record after going 19-0 this winter.
“He’s like having another coach in the room,” said coach Jeff Buxton, who has coached Blair for 29 years. “He thinks about every kid on the team and spends time helping with technique and helping with work academically. He’s the ultimate student athlete.”
Silver, who will wrestle at Stanford University next season, is just the fifth wrestler in Blair’s storied history to win four National Prep Tournament titles.
