Statistics can be twisted to support practically any argument, but in the case of Matt Hickman (No. 14 @ 152) the only thing the stats support is that fact that the Camarillo High senior had the most impressive career of any wrestler in the history of the county.
Hickman’s career mark was 184-29, including 110 pins, He is a two-time CIF champion in two different weight classes, a four-time Masters qualifier, winning one title and he made three consecutive trips to the CIF State Wrestling Championships, placing sixth as a junior and fourth this season.
For all of his accomplishments, Hickman is the Star’s Wrestler of the Year.
“Matt has had an amazing high school career that I don’t believe that anyone can match,” said Camarillo High wrestling coach Ron Wilson. “What Matt has done for wrestling at Camarillo High and Ventura County will be remembered forever. When you look at all-time achievements in the county, his accomplishments would have to be close to the top.”
