Unfortunately, the Nazareth Area High School senior was defeated 8-3 in his 130-pound match against Jesse Thielke (No. 1 @ 130) in the feature match between the Pennsylvania All-Stars and United States All-Stars.
Horan, a Central Michigan recruit, is a four-time PIAA Class AAA finalist and one-time champion who posted a 169-12 record at Nazareth. Thielke, a Wisconsin recruit, is a four-time Wisconsin champion from Germantown High School who boasted a 186-1 mark.
“It’s an honor. It’s a pretty big deal,” said Horan, the two-time reigning Express-Times Wrestler of the Year. “I wish I could have got a win for the team. Overall, the experience of wrestling in The Classic was great.”
Horan got in on a single early in the first period and almost caught Thielke in a cradle, but Thielke countered the move and scored a takedown at 1:14 to take a 2-0 lead. Horan re-injured his ankle during the scramble.
“I hurt my ankle at the state tournament and have been resting it since then,” Horan said. “I can’t really turn it the one way. I grabbed the cradle and tried to bring my back leg over and turned him that way. I had to let go (of the cradle) and he was able to score.”
