An impressive list of names adorns the walls of the wrestling room at South Plainfield High School, but of all the outstanding grapplers the perennial power has produced, none was able to win more than one state title.
Sophomore Anthony Ashnault (No. 1 @ 112) cemented his place in the storied program’s history by capturing a second consecutive crown at the NJSIAA Individual Championships at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall earlier this month.
“It’s an honor to be in an elite class by myself in the two-time category for South Plainfield,” said Ashnault, the Home News Tribune’s 2010-11 Wrestler of the Year.
“I’m sure I will look back at this and say it will probably be one of my best accomplishments.”
