Mid-Michigan is blessed with outstanding wrestlers, and in 2011 the talent is deep enough the Lansing State Journal wrestler of the year award had to be split.
National sensation Taylor Massa (No. 2 @ 160), a junior at powerhouse St. Johns, and Conor Youtsey (No. 8 @ 119), a senior at Mason, have been touted with that honor. Both won their third consecutive state championships, March 5, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
“Taylor and I are great friends; we’ve trained together since we were little kids,” Youtsey said. “It’s going to be cool down the road to be able to look back and know we (shared) the wrestler of the year.”
