Wadsworth’s Nick Tavanello (No.8 @ 215) became a two-time state champion Saturday evening when he defended his 215-pound title during the 74th annual state wrestling tournament at Value City Arena in Columbus.
The junior defeated St. Edward junior Ty Walz (No.15 @ 215) 5-2 in the Division I final at Ohio State University.
Tavanello’s finish propelled Wadsworth to third in the team standings with 96 points. St. Edward regained the top team spot from the defending state champion Grizzlies with 187 points. Massillon Perry was second with 109.
