Jordan Thomas (No.12 @ 171) found out that winning the second time around is not that easy.
The Greenville junior won his second consecutive state title when he beat Holly’s Shawn Scott 6-3 in their 171-pound championship match in Division 2 Saturday evening at the Michigan High School Athletic Association individual finals at The Palace.
“I felt more pressure on me,” said Thomas, who ends his season with a 62-0 record. “Last year I wasn’t a returning state champ and had something to prove. This year I had a bull’s-eye on me, and it’s tough to defend.”
Plus, Thomas was in a rugged weight class that saw him pushed a full six minutes three times, including a battle in the finals against Scott.
Thomas gave Scott his only two losses this year. “There was a lot more depth in this chart,” Thomas said. Every match was tough for me this year.”
