No. 5 St. Paris Graham Crowns Six State Champions

Six more state champions. An 11th straight Division II state team title. The school’s second-highest state tournament point total with 230.5.

Business as usual for the mighty Graham Falcons (No. 5), most would say. But coach Jeff Jordan said Saturday’s showing in the final day of the state tourney at Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center was beyond what even he expected.

“People asked me in how many weight classes were we favored in, and I started counting: three, maybe four. So if we won four or five titles, it would have been a great year. But six: I am extremely happy with that.”

There were six boys from St. Paris who were very happy as well: two-time state champions Nick Brascetta (No.8 @ 140) (senior, 9-4 win), Ryan Taylor (No.11 @ 112) (junior, 6-3), Isaac Jordan (H.M. @ 160) (junior, 5-3 in overtime) and Bo Jordan (No.5 @ 145) (sophomore, 3:24 pin) and first-timers Matt Stephens (No.8 @ 152) (senior, 2-0 in OT) and Micah Jordan (119, freshman, 9-6).

Coach Jordan was thrilled with each title, but especially pleased to see Stephens get his first title after finishing fourth, third and second the last three years.
