Adam Coon (No.7 @ 215) said he woke up Saturday morning and exclaimed loudly to his roommate, “Good morning, Sunshine! How are you today?”
“This is fantastic,” the 6-foot-4 Coon said. “It’s great that I’m a state champion. I’m so happy with this. I can’t wait to go for another one next year.”
It was just the fifth time since 1996, when the rule was changed, that teammates had met in a championship match. Before that, schools could only submit one wrestler per weight class, but it was altered to allow schools to arrange 14 of their wrestlers in any way they chose.
Coon and Moran handled the rare event in a polite and businesslike manner, going their separate ways during the day and treating each other like despised opponents during the match.
