Monroeville’s Hunter Stieber, Cam Tessari and Chris Phillips All Win Fourth State Titles

Monroeville’s Hunter Stieber, Cam Tessari and Chris Phillips All Win Fourth State Titles

It may be decades, generations or eons before this type of performance is duplicated.

And after a year of justified speculation, it’s finally official.

In impressive but not-so-suspenseful fashion, Monroeville’s Hunter Stieber (No.1 @ 135), Cam Tessari (No.1 @ 140) and Chris Phillips (No.2 @ 171) each won their fourth state wrestling championship.

It marks the first time a team has had three wrestlers win their fourth state title in the same season

Two years ago, just 18 wrestlers in state history had won four times. Combined with Hunter’s brother Logan, who accomplished the feat before graduating last season, the number is up to 22.

“You couldn’t write a better script,” Monroeville head coach Scott Bauer said. “Not only were these guys good wrestlers – everybody knows that – but they are some of the best, most humble kids you could ever meet.”

Stieber (54-0) faced a familiar foe, Edison’s Tyler Majoy in the championship match. In the fifth matchup between the two this season, Stieber finished Majoy off early, pinning him in the first period.

“(Facing him again) was kind of a good thing and bad thing,” Stieber said. “He knows what I’m going to do and I know what he’s going to do.”

Tessari (52-1) took on Shane Brown of Akron Manchester, who was undefeated with a 46-0 record this season heading into the finals.
