Matt Idelson (H.M. @ 215) Verbally Committs to Columbia

Garnet Valley star 215-pound wrestler Matt Idelson (H.M. @ 215) verbally committed to Columbia University Monday.

Columbia’s the place for me,” Idelson said. “I saw some other schools, but I really liked Columbia. It’s got everything I want academically and athletically.”

“It’s always been one of my dreams for Matthew to go the Ivy League,” said Idelson’s father, Stuart. “I always hoped for two things for him – a state wrestling title and for him to head to the Ivy League.”

Idelson took an official visit to Brown University this past weekend after winning his weight class at the Class AAA District One-South tournament, but the Bears failed to pull him away from Columbia. Idelson’s father cited a strong interest in Columbia’s school of engineering as one of the biggest factors in his son’s decision.

“They told him that he’d have to apply to the school of engineering after his first semester,” Stuart Idelson said. “We were hoping that they’d accept him in right away, but Matt still wants to go there. He really liked it up there.”
