The senior 152-pounder has a Minnesota-best 279-7 career record and 190 pins. He is 42-0 this season. He hopes to end his career by becoming the fourth Minnesota wrestler to win five individual state championships. McCauley was a cornerstone in leading Apple Valley, the No. 1-ranked team in the country, to a national title last season, and the Eagles are on the verge of winning another this weekend.
His next challenge is qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics and winning NCAA championships at the University of Wisconsin.
For his dominance, McCauley was an easy choice as the Pioneer Press’ wrestler of the year.
