Only 19 times since the mid-1930s has a high school wrestler won four WPIAL titles in his career.
Within the next eight days, two seniors have a good shot to join that list.
Shady Side Academy’s Geoff Alexander (No.13@125) and Franklin Regional’s Nico Megaludis (No.1@125) hope to join elite company in the coming weeks. Both have a chance to win their fourth WPIAL individual wrestling championship.
“To win four WPIAL championships is a difficult accomplishment, hands down,” Franklin Regional coach Eric Mausser said. “It takes a person who’s very dedicated and motivated to the sport. And you have to love the sport, too.”
Alexander and Megaludis fit the bill. Both started wrestling at age 5 and have dedicated themselves to the sport ever since.
