Wrestling fans can watch of two of Pennsylvania’s best middleweights collide with no travel plans for Hershey required.
Just head to Collier Township.
That’s where another dual between Burrell’s Travis McKillop (42-1) (No. 5 @ 160) and Charleroi’s Cody Wiercioch (30-1) (No. 4 @ 160) is anticipated at the WPIAL Class AA championships at Chartiers Valley.
Action begins at 5 p.m. today and runs through Saturday evening, when the consensus top two 160-pounders — barring injury or major upset — should collide for the district title.
And this is just the beginning.
McKillop, a senior, and Wiercioch, a sophomore, could end up facing off in the upcoming regional and state tournaments, as well.
“You’ve got not only two of the best guys in the state, but in the country, nationally ranked, who just happen to be in the WPIAL at the same weight,” Burrell coach Ryan Yates said. “We have a couple matches before we see Cody, but these guys are going to be having some battles in the next couple weeks. This is Travis’ last shot to do something special.”
