Devon Jackson (H.M. @ 135) left the wrestling mat at the IHSAA state tournament Saturday night with a composed demeanor, at least on the outside. His chin was up. He calmly carried his headgear in his right hand. He stared blankly into the distance as he walked to the locker room.
Once there, away from the spotlight, unable to hear any of the clatter coming from the 10,285 fans in Conseco Fieldhouse, the stark realization hit the Yorktown 135-pound wrestler.
“Two years in a row sucks — runner-up,” Jackson said. “It’s not very fun. I left it all out there. I just came up short again. I can’t stand it.”
