The marquee event of the weekend was The Super Quad hosted by Blair Academy where three nationally ranked teams battled it out. Three close duals ensued and when the dust settled, Blair beat both #6 Wyoming Seminary, 31-30, and #13 St. Edwards, 31-29. Seminary beat St. Ed’s 33-23.

While this match up won’t happen this season unless the coaches agree to a dual meet after the high school season, we thought we’d get your brain running, tabulating the potential winner.

Rodriguez Rises to the Top of California Ranks

Entering the season at the same weight as the incumbent state champion, and virtual state legend, has limited prospects for most. But that wasn’t the perspective of resilient Clovis North 125lber, Vince Rodriguez. The talented junior has vaulted to the top spot at his weight in California.

Rodriguez, who won a Doc Buchanan title and finished 3rd in the state last year at 112, was defeated in the state semifinals by eventual champion, Jesse Delgado (Selma). In the off-season, he placed 3rd at the ultra-competitive Super32’s in North Carolina and entered the regular season as the #2 ranked man at 125.

How fiting, on the Eve of the 50th of the state wrestling tournament (Feb. 18-20), to name Tennessees best prep wrestlers in the past half century.

The 2010 Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic Team USA Roster has been released.   Michigan leads the way with three roster spots followed closely by Ohio with two.
