This weekend marked a wealth of success for Boilermaker wrestling, past, present and future, at various high school state wrestling championships across the country. Most of the success came in-state as five wrestlers committed to attend Purdue next fall posted placewinning performances at the 2010 Indiana State High School Championships at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Two members of the Boilermakers’ incoming class earned Indiana state titles on Saturday as Hobart High School’s Francisco Porras was victorious at 140 pounds, while Lawrence North High School senior Brandon Nelsen captured the 119-pound crown. Porras’ win marked his second straight state title, following his 130-pound championship in 2009, while he also earned the Ward E. Brown Mental Attitude Award for excelling in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in the sport.

The 2010 Dream Team is full of talented wrestlers in one of the deepest talent pools of recent memory. Anchored by Northwestern bound Heavyweight Phenom Michael McMullen of Wyoming Seminary, Pennsylvania this team also sports the Alton brothers from Central Mountain, PA and throw in Marshall Peppleman at 160 to round out the Pennsylvania prospects taking part in the event.
